The Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival is an annual festival to celebrate Yarra Valley wines.
Of course, the Yarra valley is well-known for its many vineyards.
It is a perfect spot to go to for a romantic long weekend.
You can have a lovely time going from vineyard to vineyard at any time of the year, but during the Yarra Valley festival there is just that little bit more going on.
Getting to the Yarra Valley
The Yarra Valley is north, north-east of Melbourne, pretty much adjacent to Melbourne. From the CBD it takes about 45 - 60 minutes to get to Healesville, but when driving there taking the road from Lilydale upwards you already see many different wineries on the way. The wineries are all over the Yarra Valley and include some of Australia's most famous. It is a lovely region and well worth the visit.

Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival History
The first Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival was held in 1988 with 13 participating wineries. It was an immediate success. It wasn't until 1994 when the organisers thought it would be best to make it a weekend event.
During the festival vineyards do not only open their doors for wine tasting. After all, you can visit the Yarra Valley vineyards for that every ordinary weekend of the year. In addition to that there are lots of food tastings and musical performances.
When visiting the vineyards, make sure you ask lots of questions. Ask about what you should be smelling in the wine, about the production process, the favourite Yarra Valley wine of the winemaker, etc. Get into conversation with some of these people and you will be amazed of what you learn!
The Yarra Valley Festival is a must for the wine-lover.
It is a great weekend to indulge in wine, food and music.
When attending the festival make sure you make the proper arrangements so you do not end up being the designated driver. There are shuttle buses available to take you from one participating winery to the next one.
The Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival is sure to please!
